Prepare Your Practice for Hurricane Sandy

Posted in Weather Alert on October 27th, 2012 by MMS – Comments Off on Prepare Your Practice for Hurricane Sandy

Though Hurricane Sandy is currently expected to make landfall in southern New Jersey on Sunday, the storm still poses a significant danger to Massachusetts.

Flood warnings, high winds warnings and coastal flood warnings have been posted for various parts of Massachusetts. Governor Patrick has declared a state of emergency to facilitate preparations.

Your To Do List

Widespread, lengthy power outages in Massachusetts remain a possibility. If you own or manage a practice, consider following these precautions:

  • Post emergency contact information where patients can find it. This includes updating the home page of your practice website, and simply putting a notice in your office window. If there are local pharmacies you deal with routinely, you may wish to provide them with this contact information.
  • Back up your office computer systems and make sure you can access critical records offsite.
  • Contact the insurance companies you participate with to find out their contingencies for pre-authorizations, claims processing and prescription refills in the event of power and/or service disruptions.
  • Plan ahead for alternative storage of vaccines and other perishable items, in the event of a power outage.

Keep up to date
