On Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015, from 6:00 to 6:30 a.m. (Eastern Time), we will be performing maintenance on the member email service servers. Email service will be unavailable during this brief time period. Any emails that arrive during this time will be held in queue, and delivered to your inbox immediately after the maintenance period is over. Due to technical issues, users of the Massachusetts Medical Society’s member email service may be experiencing delays today sending emails. We’re working with our service provider to resolve the issue. Incoming email service is still available. Users will be able to receive messages, and read incoming mail on their computer, mobile device, or webmail page. This notice will be updated as soon as we have more information available. We apologize for the inconvenience.

The outgoing email functionality in the massmed.org email service has been resolved, and emails may now be sent as normal.

Massmed.org email support can be contacted at (800) 322-2303 ext. 7321. Regular office hours are 8am to 4 pm ET weekdays. If you call after business hours, please provide a phone number where we can reach you.
Our spam-virus filtering service has notified us that a MassMed.org account has been compromised and that is was necessary to interrupt MassMed.org email service to resolve this problem. In the meantime, Massmed.org email subscribers will not be able to send mail from their massmed.org account. If you attempt to send an email from your massmed.org address it will bounce back to you. Your incoming email is still available and you will be able to receive messages, and to read your incoming mail on your computer, mobile device, or the Webmail page. This notice will be updated as soon as we have more information available. We apologize for the inconvenience.
On Tuesday, Dec. 18 from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. Eastern Time, the MassMed.org email server will be offline for maintenance. During this maintenance, MMS members using the MassMed.org email service will be unable to send or receive email. This includes any attempt to send/receive email from an email program or mobile device. The MassMed.org Webmail page will also be unavailable.
After the maintenance has been performed, your email service will return to normal. Any email sent to your massmed.org address during this upgrade period will be held in queue and once the upgrade is completed, will be delivered to your mailbox.

On Saturday, Nov. 17, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET, the MMS website, blog and our member email service will be out of service, for maintenance purposes. Please plan ahead accordingly. Users of our member email service will not be able to send or retrieve new messages during this time period. All messages received during this outage will be saved, and may be retrieved after the maintenance period is completed. We regret any inconvenience that this causes.
At approximately 6:00 this morning, a small electrical fire in a power unit within the computer server room at the Society’s Waltham headquarters forced us to immediately shut down power to all web, email and telephone servers. Rapid action taken by our IT staff prevented the rest of our equipment from sustaining serious damage. There were no injuries.
The massmed.org member email system was among the many services that were taken offline as a result of this action. Also affected were the MMS website, internal MMS email services, and subscriber transactions on the New England Journal of Medicine and Journal Watch websites. Some content on the NEJM and Journal Watch sites was still available along with MMS Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn sites, because these are hosted at other locations.
Staff worked diligently throughout the morning to repair the damage, and the backups to our complex network of websites, email systems, and telephone systems were back in operation by early afternoon.
If you received emails on your MassMed account during this outage period, these emails were stored offsite and should filter into your Inbox by the end of the day. Emails you received or sent before the outage were not affected, and should be still in your account (unless you previously deleted them).
We’re sorry for any inconvenience this created. Though some things are out of our control, we’ll evaluate the incident and make any necessary improvements as needed.
Due to the updates applied to the MMS member email service during the week of June 4, some aspects of the system have changed. The following tips may help you through the transition process to the new system.
- Your password must meet new requirements for complex passwords
- It must contain at least 6 characters and not more than 30.
- It must contain at least 1 lower case letter, 1 number, and 1 uppercase letter or special character (Examples of special characters: % $ # @ & * ^).
How to check if your password meets the complexity requirements
- Go to the Webmail page.
- Log into your account.
- If your password does not meet complexity requirements you will be asked to change it.
- After changing the password you will see your inbox.
If you change your password on the Webmail page you must change your password in all other methods you use to access your email: Your iPhone, iPad, tablet, mobile device, and other email programs.
If you try to login multiple times with an incorrect password the system will lock you out. You must then contact MassMedNET support for assistance.
If your mail does not appear in mailbox
Mailboxes were re-indexed during the upgrade and may take some additional time to load completely. Options:
- Log into Webmail.
- From the inbox, click “refresh mail.”
- If you are using Internet Explorer version 8 or version 9: Click TOOLS then COMPATIBILITY VIEW SETTINGS. Be sure that “Display all websites in compatibility view” is not checked.
